SAVE NIGERIA MOVEMENT TASKS INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION, SECURITY AGENCIES.
The Save Nigeria Movement (SNM), a pro democracy and rights group committed to the protection of democracy and good governance has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Federal Government and security agencies in the country to respect the wishes of Adamawa State people by conducting a free, fair and credible re-run for the Adamawa governorship election slated for Saturday April 15,2023.
Recall that the electoral commission, INEC, had declared the governorship election in Adamawa State inconclusive after realising that the cancelled votes were more than the margin of victory between Mr Fintiri of the PDP and , Aisha Dahiru of the APC who was winning before the unfortunate disruption by agents alleged to be sponsored by the incumbent goverment of Adamawa state. This tendency to derail democracy has to be censored by well meaning patriots.
There are wide allegations that the ruling party in Adamawa state is working in connivance with the electoral commission to alter the results to favour the incumbent governor. Intelligence at our disposal reveal that the there is a sinister plan to declare the PDP candidate as the rerun is only a cover up. The world is watching.
We call on INEC and other relevant agencies to respect the wishes of the people. It is on record the entire election was characterized by irregularities to the advantage of the incumbent goverment in Adamawa. Cases of ballot box snatching, voter intimidation and other forms of ills were the order of the day yet the authorities looked the other way to disfavor the only female leading candidate Senator Binani. We call on Nigerians to join hands to insist on the right thing to preserve the democracy.
We have alerted the international community and all pro-democracy organisations to beam their searchlight on the Adamawa governorship election. We will not fold our arms and watch democracy being raped. We shall mobilize observers widely to monitor and ensure that the votes of the people count in tomorrow’s rerun so that the wishes of the people of Adamawa to make history through the first elected female governor would come to pass.
