Ten alleged political thugs who were terrorizing different parts of the state have been apprehended, according to the Sokoto State Police Command.
Weapons, amulets, and drugs were found on the suspects, according to DSP Sanusi Abubakar, the state police public relations officer, who confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
Abubakar claimed that the development was in accordance with the orders given by the state’s commissioner of police, Mohammed Gumel, to area commanders and DPOs to conduct raids on locations known to harbor thugs, particularly at campaign offices, party offices, and the homes of some politicians, and to make sure that there is no place for thugs to operate in the state.

The police, working with members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, “have escalated top crime prevention actions and have thus far arrested a syndicate of ten political thugs with dangerous weapons, various charms, and drugs at various locations in the state,” according to the statement.
The first gang of thugs was apprehended at Kangiwa Square, while others were apprehended in Hubbare Area, as a result of recent stop-and-search operations carried out by police immediately following the public announcement issued by the command. As of the time this report was submitted, all the suspects had been charged and were being held on remand in a Sokoto jail.

Noting that the exercise was ongoing, Abubakar said Gumel had instructed all DPOs to search the locations of all campaign offices, party offices, and known residences of politicians in the state who have a history of breeding thugs.
