The Jigawa State governorship election has been declared a victory by incumbent deputy governor Umar Namadi.
On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared that Namadi had received a total of 618,449 votes, winning in 26 of the state’s 27 Local Government Areas (LGA).
With a total of 368,726 votes, Mustapha Lamido of the People Democratic Party (PDP), who was Mustapha Namadi’s closest competitor, finished in second place.

Aminu Ibrahim, the nominee for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), finished in a distant third place with 37,156 votes.
“I, Prof. Umar Zaiyan, hereby certify that Umar Namadi of the APC has satisfied the requirements of the law and is declared the winner of the Jigawa governorship election,” INEC’s returning officer Umar Zaiyan said.
1,073,540 of the 2,351,298 registered voters in the state were accredited to vote in the governor’s race. 1,052,793 votes were cast in total, 20,226 of them were rejected, and 1,032.567 votes were counted as valid.
