Breaking: Benue Youth Dares State Governor, blocks Highway again in Protest Over Herdsmen Attacks

TEC News!

For the second time in two days, Benue youth have taken to the streets, blocking the Makurdi-Abuja highway in protest over the incessant attacks and killings by herdsmen in the state.

TEC News gathered that the protest, which started on Saturday at the Daudu axis of the highway, was temporarily silenced by security personnel, but resumed this Sunday morning at the popular roundabout in Makurdi.

Eyewitnesses report that the youth, chanting slogans such as “Stop Benue Killings,” are demanding an end to the senseless killings and destruction of properties by herdsmen.

The protest follows a devastating attack on Friday, which resulted in the loss of over 100 lives, with men, women, and children killed, and houses set ablaze in Yelwata, aside other attacks in some other areas of the state.

The attacks, allegedly perpetrated by herdsmen, have been ongoing for some time, but have increased in frequency and intensity recently.

A heavy security presence, including  Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies, is currently at the scene, with a helicopter patrolling the air to ensure the safety of lives and properties.

The situation remains tense in Makurdi, with residents hoping that the situation does not escalate further and the cry remains “stop benue killing”.
