Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has passed away in London.
A statement signed by Garba Shehu on behalf of the family confirmed that the former Head of State and two-term civilian president died this afternoon at a clinic in the United Kingdom’s capital city.
“With deep sorrow, the family of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, announces his passing earlier today at a clinic in London. We pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and admits him into Aljannatul Firdaus. Ameen,” the statement read.
President Buhari, a retired Major General and former military ruler from 1983 to 1985, later returned as a democratically elected leader in 2015 and was re-elected in 2019, serving until 2023. He remains a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political history.
Further details regarding funeral arrangements are yet to be made public.
