Nasarawa State Assembly Mourns as 12 lives are lost in Boat Crash

Nasarawa State House of Assembly has commiserated with the state government and Lafia Local Government Area over the death of 12 people in a boat accident in the state on 20th August, 2023 throwing the entire state into mourning.

The accident that occurred at a River, Kogi Kungra Kamfani, in Arikiya, Lafia LGA of the state on 20th August had 19 people been involved with 7 rescued and 12 lives lost.

The Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Abdullahi, gave the condolence message during an emergency sitting in Lafia on Thursday.

While condoling with the bereaved families over the death of their loved ones, he said, “It is very sad that we lost 12 people, comprising men and women in a boat mishap in Arikiya, Lafia LGA.

“19 people were on board, 12 died and seven were rescued. Lafia LGA and our dear state have been thrown into mourning over this sad incident.”

The state assembly urged the families, Lafia LGA and the state government to bear the irreparable loss.

“On behalf of myself, Honourable members and the staff of the assembly, we condole with the bereaved families, Lafia LGA and the state government over their deaths in the boat mishap

“We pray for the repose of their souls and that God should forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest,” he added.

TEC News correspondent reports that the lawmakers observed a minute silence in honour of the dead citizens of the state.

Nasarawa State is one of the States that bordered the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and Lafia Local Government Area of the sate is about 3 and half hours away from Abuja by road. TEC News correspondent added.
