HARCOURT, PORT – Governor Nyesom Wike has referred to the former governor of Anambra state as the hero of the presidential election in 2023 in response to general allegations that he conspired to thwart the victory of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the most recent presidential elections.
According to Governor Wike, Mr. Peter Obi’s choice to run for president on the Labour Party platform largely prevented the north from retaining power after President Muhammadu Buhari’s term ended.
In an interactive session with representatives from the Technical Dealers Association of Nigeria, Computer Dealers Association, Garrison Phone Dealers Association, and Building Materials Traders Association on Saturday in Port Harcourt, the governor of Rivers State made the commendation.
Contrary to claims that he didn’t support Peter Obi, Governor Wike said that the Labour Party candidate for president is still his election hero, despite what most people didn’t realize.
Obi is my favorite. If Obi had not entered the race, the North would have regained control. If Obi had not run, PDP would have won the South-South and South-East regions as a whole.
“Whether you like it or not, Obi is the hero of this election,” he continued. I’m not here to win your favor; Obi is the protagonist. No matter that he wasn’t declared the winner, the law will still apply. The North would have maintained control if Obi had not run in this election. History will be on his side that he fought and fought well, regardless of whether he declares himself the winner at this time.
The PDP G-5 governors had unanimously decided to ensure the election of a president from southern Nigeria to succeed President Buhari, according to the governor of Rivers State, who explained why he did not publicly declare support for any presidential candidate.
According to Governor Wike, while the G-5 governors diligently worked to restore power to the South, people like Chibuike Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State and the most recent minister of transportation, who is now urging Igbo to support Tonye Cole for the APC, mobilized support for Atiku Abubakar.
Why did Amaechi not support Obi if he loves the Igbos? Rather, he backed Atiku. He lost his APC ticket, so he did not want the South to regain power.
The governor claimed Amaechi is purposefully seeking Tonye Cole’s support because he wants to stall their ongoing prosecution for stealing $50 million from the coffers of the Rivers State government.
Despite serving as the minister of transportation for more than seven years, Amaechi was unable to revive the eastern ports and railway lines from Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt, and Governor Wike warned Igbos in Rivers State to be cautious of him.
The governor recalled that Amaechi vehemently opposed a plan to compensate Igbos who lost their property in the State during the civil war when he was Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
He thinks it is completely naughty of Amaechi, who also held the office of governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015, to wake up in 2023 and bring up the subject of abandoned property due to his excessive political ambition.
The governor announced that the Computer Dealers Association would receive 30 and 150 plots of land, respectively, to build an industrial park in Port Harcourt.
The governor received assurances from the chairs of the Computer Dealers Association and the Building Materials Traders Association that they would support Sir Siminialayi Fubara of the PDP for governor of Rivers State in the 18 March 2023 election.
