WAEC Technical Glitch Resolved, Education Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Exam Integrity

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the resolution of a technical glitch that recently affected the processing of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the issue arose during post-release processing, particularly in subjects where the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) introduced paper serialization as part of enhanced security measures. The problem was swiftly addressed following a briefing to the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa.
The Ministry commended WAEC for its prompt response, transparency, and professionalism in resolving the matter, assuring candidates that updated results will be accessible on the result checker portal within 24 hours. It also thanked affected students for their patience.
Reiterating its broader education reform agenda, the Ministry revealed that both WAEC and the National Examinations Council (NECO) will begin a phased rollout of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) starting with objective components in November 2026. The move, the Ministry said, aims to curb malpractice, prevent question leakages, and restore public trust in the examination system.
Dr. Alausa stressed that safeguarding exam integrity is non-negotiable, noting that high standards are essential to protect the future of Nigerian students and sustain the country’s global academic reputation.
