Ayu was suspended on Sunday by the PDP Executive Committee in Igyorov Ward, Gboko Local Government Area, Benue State, following a vote of no confidence against him for anti-party activities.
Speaking about the matter while a guest on Sunrise Daily, Wike said that he supports the action because Ayu was a significant factor in the PDP’s disastrous performance in the general elections of 2023.
When asked if he supported the actions of the PDP officials in Benue, Wike responded, “I am in support of the suspension.”
The governor backed up his claim by saying, “In fact, if he (Ayu) had left earlier, they would have claimed that his departure was the reason the PDP lost the election.
“First of all, will you be happy with the party as it is now if you are a member of the party? Only in this country do you see someone who has failed miserably and has no conscience still want to hold the position.”

“In developed nations like you see, where you are the leader of the party, I feel like such a colossal failure that you do not need anyone to tell you to give up,”
“So those in his ward from Benue are hungry, why are they upset before now? Ayu ought to have left that office, people were claiming we were pushing for Ayu to resign and that we had a secret goal of causing the PDP to fail.”
“Ayu remained and PDP didn’t win, you lost your unit as National Chairman you lost your ward, as National Chairman you lost your Local government, and as National Chairman of the party you lost in the state gubernatorial election,” said Wike. “Not only did you take a distant third in the presidential election you also lost in the state gubernatorial election.”
