Obasanjo Library Gives EFCC Seven-Day Ultimatum, Demands ₦3.5bn Compensation Over Raid

The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) demanding ₦3.5 billion in compensation over what it described as a violent and damaging invasion of its premises on August 10.
At a press conference on Wednesday, the Library’s Managing Director, Vitalis Ortese, alleged that over 50 armed EFCC operatives, led by one “Olapade,” stormed the OOPL Rounda Fun Spot around 2 a.m. during a “Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza” party. The operation, Ortese said, resulted in the arrest of 93 youths, seizure of 18 vehicles and several mobile devices, as well as injuries and panic caused by gunfire.
The OOPL management is demanding:
₦1 billion for bodily injuries and damages suffered by those arrested.
₦2.5 billion for reputational, business, and financial losses allegedly inflicted on the institution and its chief promoter, former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Immediate restitution to all affected persons and return of seized vehicles.
Separate public apologies from both the EFCC and the Nigeria Police Force to be published across major TV, print, and online platforms.
Ortese described the operation as
“aggravated, unconstitutional, oppressive, and clearly actuated by malice”
against both the Library and Chief Obasanjo. He added that officers stationed at OOPL were neither informed nor involved in the raid.
The management also called for a comprehensive investigation by security agencies, with findings made public, particularly on the alleged brutalisation of patrons who, according to OOPL, had committed no crime beyond attending a lawful party.
Failure to meet the demands within seven days, Ortese warned, would leave the Library with
“no choice but to seek full redress in court.”
