After congratulating Bola Tinubu, the winner of Nigeria’s recently-concluded presidential election, on his victory, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of war-torn Ukraine, has come under fire.
This follows Zelensky’s declaration that his nation was prepared to collaborate with Nigeria to overcome global challenges, including those posed by threats to food security, in a tweet congratulating Tinubu on his election on Thursday.
Thank you for your support. Congratulations to @officialABAT on winning the Nigerian presidential election. I eagerly await our future collaboration. The two-way relationship will undoubtedly improve, in my opinion. The threats to food security are just a few of the challenges that (Ukraine) is prepared to collaborate on to overcome.

Nigerians criticized Zelensky for making the post after “our democracy was invaded” on social media in response to it.

Most tweeps claimed Zelensky was unaware of allegations of voter intimidation and election rigging that marred the elections on February 25, 2023.
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party members had since claimed that the election’s conduct had not been free and fair, and the tweeps’ positions aligned with those of these parties.
