Oduneye Oluwaseun, a journalist, was freed from captors by Ogun State Police Command agents 72 hours after being taken hostage by gunmen in the Ijebu Ode region of the State.
Oduneye, the state’s publisher of Issues Magazine, was kidnapped last Thursday at around 7:50 p.m. while driving back from a trip to Abeokuta, the state capital, in his Toyota Camry in the Mobalufon neighborhood of Ijebu Ode.
He was, however, freed on Saturday after a roughly 45-minute gun battle between the kidnappers and security personnel took place in the Idimu axis of Lagos State’s Egbeda local government area.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who confirmed the development to journalists on Monday, said Oduneye’s kidnappers had made contact with his wife on Friday through the victim’s phone line and demanded N30 million in ransom before they would release him.
But after receiving a report from his wife, the state’s police commissioner, Frank Mba, instructed Murphy Salami, the divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of Obalende, Ijebu Ode, where the incident took place, to make sure Oduneye was safely released from his captors.
