The woman, simply identified as Amaye, was alleged to have made some derogatory comments considered offensive to Islam, while interacting with a customer who happens to be her admirer in her restaurant.
The customer was said to have jokingly proposed marriage to the late Amaye, citing the tradition of the Prophet, after which she made the alleged blasphemous remarks.
Sources familiar with the incident said the woman was immediately whisked away to the palace of the district head of Kasuwan-Garba, who then handed her over to security operatives for investigation.
However, it was gathered that the angry crowd mobilised, overwhelmed and overpowered the security operatives, seized her from them and burned her to death.
Mr Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesman of the police command in Niger State, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday.
He said that the woman was lynched before security reinforcement could arrive at the scene.
“On 30/8/2025 at about 2pm, a report received indicated that one Amaye, a female, of Kasuwan-Garba, Mariga LGA, allegedly made some comments against the Islamic prophet.
“Unfortunately, it led to a mob attack, and she was set ablaze before the reinforcement of the security teams.
“Meanwhile, efforts are being made to ensure that arrests are effected and that suspects are investigated and prosecuted,” Abiodun said.(Agency report)
