The same Abuja – Keffi expressway completed and commission about 5 years ago is back in a bad state , living commuters in anguish again.
The road which was completed in 2001 and commissioned by the Federal government is now raising concerns and questions yet to be answered.
The bad part of the road is the portion of Maraba to Keffi which is now making motorists suffer holdup on a daily basis which is capable of affecting even those that lives in Keffi and works in Abuja.
The condition of the road is raising question on how reliable is the word of the company that handles the project , especially from Keffi – Akwanga – Makurdi and at competition, the company CHEC promised that the maintenance part of the road shall last for 25years.
According to Commuters who spoke to TEC News correspondent, Nigerians roads are been described as ‘ government abracadabra project’ where Government issues contracts to companies to fix road and the renewal of the contracts continues yearly with budget been raised and yet, years after, roads are not completed and even when completed, some other parts of it goes bad again after few months.
” Nigerian roads projects? It’s nothing but an abracadabra where the more you see, the less you understand. Contractors keep sharing our money with Government as national cake where the roads projects becomes endless from year to year despite yearly allocation of budget to same project. As the roads are been completed where they are, other parts already completed goes bad again making the project unending”. James Ishaku , a motorist said.
Ishaku who gave example of Okene – Lokoja – Abuja expressway which he described uncompleted till now after many years of being under construction puts the blame of the Federal Government and suggest that the contractors be monitored and cautioned as well.
Example is the Okene – Lokoja – Abuja express way . That project started from Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, then to Late President Yar’adua and then Former President Goodluck Jonathan , to Former President Muhammadu Buhari and now , President Tinubu has inherited the same project. Something is wrong with this country . Nobody checkmate anybody? Or is it corruption In high places? “. Ishaku said.
Awolu, a truck driver also lamented Abuja – Keffi road and described it as the sample of Nigerian state where no one is held accountable either government or the contractors handling any project in Nigeria. They do whatever they like with the people taxes.
“This country is a place where no one is held accountable for anything either Government or the companies handling any national projects in the country. They do whatever they like with tax prayers money. That is the only reason a road would remain uncompleted for more than a decade”.
Abuja – Keffi Expressway and Lokoja – Abuja expressway are the gate ways to the seat of power, Federal Capital Territory and needs all available attention .
