Emefiele Charged to Court by DSS
The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed on Thursday that the suspended CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele has been charged to court.
The development is in compliance with the Order of an Abuja High Court today, 13th July, 2023.
In a statement signed by the National Headquarters of Department of State Services’ Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya Ph.D fsi, stated that the former CBN governor was charged to court Having concluded investigation on his matter.
Recall that Last year, the agency accused the governor of a barrage of offences. The DSS secretly requested a court order in December to arrest him on allegations of “financing terrorism, fraudulent activities, and economic crimes of national security dimension.”
This request was, however, rejected by the Federal High Court in Abuja on the ground that the secret security unit failed to present sufficient evidence to justify issuing an arrest warrant against Mr Emefiele, one of which forms the basis for his current prosecution.
The Service assures the public of professionalism, justice and fairness in handling this matter and indeed the discharge of its duties within the confines of the law.
Mr Godwin Emefiele has been in custody for 33days now.
