Federal High Court appoints vacation judges for Easter

On Monday, the Federal High Court announced the schedule for the Easter vacation and roster for vacation judges during the year 2023.

According to a circular that was signed by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice John Tsoho, it was announced that the court would begin its Easter vacation on Friday, March 31, 2023, and continue until Monday, April 17, 2023.

“This is in accordance with the directives contained in Order 46, Rule 4(b) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.” (as amended). On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, the court will once again begin holding sittings across all of its Judicial Divisions.

In a circular that was sent to journalists by the Assistant Director of Information, it was stated that during the vacation period, the Judicial Divisions in Abuja, Lagos, and Port-Harcourt would only remain open to the public in the event of an extremely urgent matter.

Dr. Catherine Oby Christopher, a judge on the Federal High Court of Nigeria, made this statement.

The cases coming from the Federal Capital Territory, the North Central Region, the North Western Region, and the North Eastern Region of the country will be heard by the Abuja Judicial Division.

The Port-Harcourt Judicial Division will be responsible for hearing cases from all of the states located in the South-South and South-Eastern geo-political zones, while the Lagos Division will be responsible for hearing cases from all of the states located in the South-Western region.

 

According to the circular, the following Judges will be serving in the capacity of vacation Judges.

While Justice A.R. Mohammed, Justice Donatus Okorowo, and Justice T.G. Ringim would be responsible for the Abuja Division, the rest of the court would be presided over by Justice T.G. Ringim.

It has been decided that Justice A.O. Awogboro will assume leadership of the Lagos Division.

It has been decided that Justice A.T. Mohammed and Justice S.I. Mark will take turns serving as vacation Judges in the Port Harcourt Division.

As is customary, the vacation Judges and Heads of Divisions have been instructed to promptly refer any matters that they believe may require His Lordship’s immediate attention and directives to the Honorable Chief Judge.

In the circular, it was stated that the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Honorable Justice John T. Tsoho, wished his fellow lordships a wonderful vacation in advance.
