Anti-corruption group asks Tinubu to sack Wike over alleged arbitrary FCT land allocations
The Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NACAT), Nigeria’s foremost non-profit anti-corruption and trafficking organisation, has call on President Bola Tinubu to call to order and suspend the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike alleged abuse of office and “reckless” allocation of land in Abuja.a
Fejiro Samson, Co-Founder – NACAT, who made the call in a statement on Wednesday, alleged that Wike arbitrarily allocated land to family members and cronies.
He said it was appalled by the president’s continued silence in spite of reports, which claimed the FCT minister had allocated plots to his children, father, siblings and other associates.
“The FCT minister has overstepped his boundaries, and as such, we call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sack him now with immediate effect.
“We are aghast and worried that the president has yet to call Mr Wike to order, either by suspending or abruptly sacking him.”
According to him, no previous FCT minister has exhibited the level of “high-handedness and avarice” as Wike, listing all past ministers from 1976 to 2023.
It stated that none of the past ministers had been so high-handed, avaricious like Wike, especially as it related to the brazen allocation of lands by the Minister to his families, cronies, and friends, even as he gets away with his level of impunity.
”What this means is that the minister is untouchable and is not even afraid of the President who appointed him as minister.
”With this, it is either that there is something Wike holds strongly against Mr. President, that he is having his way in all things, or there is a pact in which the duo has together.
”NACAT, just like we have always done before, as the pacesetter when it comes to anti-corruption, Trafficking in persons, and drug abuse fight, we won’t fold our hands and watch Mr. Wike continue his sordid acts.
”Therefore, we call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately sack Mr. Nyesom Wike as FCT Minister, while we call on the anti-graft agencies, the EFCC and ICPC to arrest him and begin a probe.
”Failure to act, we will stage a continuous protest at the National Assembly and FCT ministry until Mr Wike is removed from office and prosecuted,” he said.
According to him, Stella Oduah was removed from office by President Goodluck Jonathan for buying a BMW of less than N300 million. What then is the excuse by Tinubu not to remove Wike who has embarrassed the country with the looting of over N300 billion in lands.
Failure to do this, we will stage a continuous protest at the National Assembly and FCT Ministry until Mr. Wike is removed from office and prosecuted.
