Benue: Fresh Attack Hits SGF Hometown After Presidential Visit to Benue

TEC News!

Just 48 hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Benue State, a fresh wave of violence has been reported in the Wannune community, located in Tarka Local Government Area—hometown of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

According to local sources, suspected armed assailants launched an overnight attack, leaving multiple casualties and several others injured. The full scale of the damage is yet to be officially confirmed, but eyewitnesses describe the incident as deeply disturbing.

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in the area shared a distressing account, stating:

“People are fleeing into the bushes. It’s chaotic here—please let Nigerians pray for us. The attackers are causing widespread fear.”

The incident comes on the heels of President Tinubu’s recent visit to the state, where he met with key stakeholders and directed top security officials—including the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff—to intensify efforts in curbing the violence and apprehending those responsible.

His visit followed the tragic killings in Yelewata, Guma LGA, where over 200 lives were reportedly lost in a single incident that drew national and international condemnation.

The latest attack raises renewed concerns about the security situation in the region and the urgency of sustained government response to protect lives and restore peace in the affected communities.
