In a dramatic turn of events at Ihotu Motor Park, Otukpo, three individuals suspected of involvement in recent abductions were apprehended following a chance encounter with a past kidnap victim.
According to eyewitness reports, the suspects had reportedly arrived at the park intending to board a vehicle to Makurdi. One of the passengers—a young lady—recognized one of the men as a person linked to her previous abduction. She immediately raised an alarm and confronted the suspect inside the vehicle. Two other men attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended shortly after with the help of bystanders.
A large sum of money, estimated at ₦11 million, was reportedly found in a travel bag believed to belong to the suspects. The bag, described by observers as a “Ghana-Must-Go” sack, was reportedly discovered at the back of the vehicle.
Before mob action could escalate, the manager of Ihotu Park quickly intervened by contacting security forces. Both military personnel and police officers arrived promptly, securing the suspects and restoring order. The female passenger who raised the alarm, along with the suspects and the seized evidence, were taken to a local police station for preliminary investigation.
Another individual, a lady who visited the station shortly after, also reportedly identified the suspects in connection with a separate abduction case.
Authorities have since transferred the case to Makurdi for further investigation. TEC News learned that top-level attention has been drawn to the matter, with key state officials showing keen interest in the ongoing probe.
The Benue State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement at the time of this report, but a senior law enforcement source assured that thorough investigations are underway to ascertain the full scope of the incident.
