Prominent Clergyman Engages Italian Envoy on Nigeria’s National Security Concerns
TEC News|Edo State|27th Dec, 2025.

The President and Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries International (OFMI), Apostle Johnson Suleman, has engaged the Deputy Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Iacopo Foti, in a high-level discussion on Nigeria’s national security challenges, with particular focus on insecurity and faith-based violence.
The engagement took place during a courtesy visit by the Italian diplomat to Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, where the international headquarters of Omega Fire Ministries is situated.

The meeting, which lasted for about two hours, centred on the worsening security situation in parts of the country. Apostle Suleman expressed concern over what he described as the continued killings of Christians in some regions, stressing that the situation remains troubling and deserves sustained local and international attention.
He noted that past attempts to downplay the scale of the insecurity had not yielded solutions, adding that greater effort should be directed at decisively confronting banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities threatening national stability.
While acknowledging that Nigeria’s security challenges predate the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the cleric emphasized that governance is a continuum, stating that the responsibility for addressing inherited challenges ultimately lies with the incumbent government.

Apostle Suleman, however, commended the Federal Government’s renewed efforts in combating terrorism, including actions against ISIS and other destabilizing groups. He specifically praised the leadership of the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), and called for stronger diplomatic engagements to improve Nigeria’s global image and attract international cooperation.
In his response, Deputy Ambassador Iacopo Foti acknowledged the concerns raised and assured that the issues discussed would be communicated to the Italian government and its international partners.
