Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and members of the PDP’s state executive committee are not subject to suspension or expulsion by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to alleged anti-party activities, according to the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In his ruling, Justice Inyang Ekwo stated that suspending or expelling Wike and other PDP members would constitute a violation of their rights to freedom of association and that their concerns were well-founded.

In light of this, the judge ruled that the court could award compensation to individuals whose actions are well known to constitute an infringement of their rights.

According to the judge, political party members cannot be summarily suspended if party rules have not been followed.

The G5—Governor Wike and four other PDP governors—had openly campaigned against Atiku Abubakar, a PDP presidential candidate, in the general elections of 2023.
