Courts Go on Vacation Next Week, Citizens Urged to Avoid Crime During Festive Period

The general public has been advised to exercise caution and strictly avoid all forms of illegal activities as courts across the country are expected to proceed on annual vacation starting from next week.
Legal practitioners have warned that during this period, access to the courts for urgent matters may be limited, making it difficult for arrested persons to promptly enforce their constitutional right to be charged to court.
According to legal experts, the festive season often records increased police activity, including patrols, stop-and-search operations, and arrests. This heightened enforcement, combined with court vacations, could result in suspects spending extended periods in police custody before being arraigned.
They cautioned that police stations are not courts of law and that there are limits to what legal counsel can effectively do at the station level once an arrest has been made, especially when courts are not fully sitting.
Members of the public are therefore strongly urged to shun all unlawful acts that could attract arrest by the , noting that prevention remains the safest option during this period.
Legal analysts further emphasized that while rights remain protected under the law, practical enforcement becomes more challenging when courts are on vacation, making personal responsibility and lawful conduct crucial.
