The fish vendors claimed that owners of cold rooms were turning away their old naira notes.

According to reports, the fish vendors are from Ibadan’s main markets.
The fish vendors protested and said they had collected old notes from their clients on Tuesday.

The fish vendors claimed that on Wednesday, when they arrived at Bodija Market, the managers of the cold rooms refused to accept the old notes from them.
The fish vendors who spoke with journalists bemoaned the fact that they would lose money if they did not have a place to exchange money.

When they arrived at the market on Wednesday morning, according to a fish vendor who spoke with our correspondent, Mrs. Olayemi Adebayo, the old notes were refused.

She recommended that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) postpone the deadline for exchanging the old notes for new ones.
We came here to protest, said Adebayo. This morning when we went to the Bodija Market to purchase some fish, they did not ask for any old notes. We are here this morning because of that.

“We ask that the government extend the deadline on our behalf. Our sales are being impacted by the development. Older notes have been gathered by us. We each have about N30,000 in the old notes in our possession.

Mrs. Fatimat Adejumo, a different fish vendor, reported that they were at a crossroads.

On Tuesday, we gathered old notes left by customers. This morning when they arrived in the chilly room, they were rejecting the notes.
