Gifted Child Academy Holds Speech and Prize-Giving, Speaker Urges Govt to Support Private Schools

Gifted Child Academy, Akwanga, came alive on Monday, July 28, 2025, as it hosted its annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day within the school premises.

 

The well-attended event featured vibrant presentations from learners, including debates, choreographed dances, cultural displays, and speeches — all showcasing the talent and academic grooming the school offers.

 

The highlight of the day was the keynote address delivered by education advocate and management consultant, Apostle Da-Silva Johnson, who is also the Lead Director of Human Enhancement Institute (HEI Nigeria). In his speech titled “The Merits of Education ,” he emphasized the urgent need for stakeholders to move beyond routine schooling to intentional, value-based education as education has a lot of merits ranging from knowledge, confidence, ability to read, think and solve problems.

Da-Silva, himself a school proprietor, commended the efforts of the management and teaching staff, urging them to remain patient and committed despite economic challenges.

 

“We know you’re doing so much and receiving so little in return. But don’t relent — you’re building destinies, not just delivering lessons,”

he told the teachers.

 

He also issued a strong appeal to the government to support private schools, stressing that they are partners in national development. He called for grant-aiding, capacity building, and advisory supervision, instead of regulatory harassment.

 

“Private schools are helping to shoulder the burden of national education. What they need is support, not suppression. All children — public or private — are Nigerian citizens and deserve quality education,” he said.

 

To parents, the guest speaker stressed the importance of timely fee payments and active involvement in their children’s educational progress.

 

“Support goes beyond school fees. Encourage the teachers, sometimes show appreciation with small gifts. Let your presence and partnership be felt,” he added.

 

The event was attended by dignitaries, including officials of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Akwanga Chapter, led by Mrs. Joy Oludu (Coordinator), Mr. Sunday Abawen (Secretary), and Mrs. Janet Albert (Assistant Secretary).

 

Ms. Dooshima Ageh, Proprietress of Gifted Child Academy and current NAPPS Welfare Officer, traced the school’s origin to the former Transformation Academy, which was handed over to her by Pastor John C.I as a gift and responsibility. Upon assuming leadership and as advised by the former proprietor who relocated to Abuja, she renamed it Gifted Child Academy and as inspired by the talents and rapid assimilation she observed in the learners.

 

“Our children are truly gifted. I name their classes prophetically — Governors Class, Lawyers Class, Engineers Class — because I see greatness in them. In 5 to 10 years, I want to see these children excelling in their chosen fields,” she told TEC News.

 

Teachers at the school also shared their passion and methods. Mrs Faith explained how she provides tailored attention to both slow and fast learners, while Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, a passionate educator of four years with the school, described his motivation:

 

“I am not a teacher by profession, I’m a teacher by passion. I love teaching because I know I’m helping to build the future,” he said.

He added that the school instills essential values such as discipline, obedience, and mutual respect alongside academic instruction.

 

TEC News observed that though Gifted Child Academy is located in a relatively modest setting in Akwanga, the school is emerging as a beacon of quality education, vision, and moral excellence — and deserves greater community and governmental support.
