A disturbing video circulating on social media has captured the brutal execution of a man, allegedly by three armed Fulani herdsmen, on the Kogi–Ekiti highway.
The footage, too graphic to broadcast publicly, has sparked outrage and renewed fears over worsening insecurity in parts of Nigeria.
The harrowing video shows the victim with his hands tightly bound behind his back as he is pinned to the ground by two men, believed to be herdsmen. A third man, also armed, is seen slaughtering the victim in cold blood while the others restrain him. The victim is heard groaning and screaming before his throat is slit, and his head is left dangling in a gruesome scene that has horrified viewers.
During the execution, the assailants were heard shouting “Allahu Akbar” multiple times, indicating the possible presence of extremist undertones in the act. The victim’s identity remains unknown at the time of this report, and no group has formally claimed responsibility.
One of the viewers who shared the gory video commented that the attack happened along the isolated stretch of the highway way early Saturday and prayed that “God save us in this country” .
The motive remains unclear, but locals point to the growing pattern of kidnappings and targeted killings often attributed to armed herders and criminal gangs operating in the region.
The Nigerian government is enjoined to intensify operations in volatile areas and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“This is no longer just about insecurity. It is a national emergency,” one analyst told TEC News. “The impunity with which human lives are being taken is alarming.”
Authorities are yet to issue a formal statement on the incident as investigations are said to be ongoing.
Meanwhile, residents in the communities around the scene of the incident are urged to be vigilant on the route for now and concerned persons are demanding immediate military deployment to restore safety.
