In a heartwarming celebration filled with music, dance, and inspiring speeches, Great Little Lamp Academy on Friday, July 25, 2025, marked its 8th Anniversary during its annual Speech and Prize Giving Day, drawing admiration from parents, educators, and community leaders.
What sets this school apart? No staff has ever been owed a salary, and no parent owes school fees. In a time when many schools struggle with financial burdens, Great Little Lamp Academy is rewriting the story of private education.
Speaking with TEC News, the proprietress, Mrs. Grace Udoro, recounted the humble beginnings of the school.
“We started with just three kids,” she said. “Today we have classes from nursery to SS3. I’m grateful to God, to our cooperative parents, and to my ever-dedicated staff. This is not just a school; it is a place of purpose and passion.”
Mrs. Udoro, a passionate educator, emphasized that her vision was never about profit but about ensuring that every child can read, write, and understand phonics.
“Teaching is my hobby. It brings me joy. Every child here must learn vowels and consonants, not just pass exams,” she added.
Staff members also had glowing remarks. Rose Fidelix, a teacher of four years, applauded the school’s ongoing teacher training programs and its unique entrepreneurship curriculum. Students learn tailoring, baking, soap-making, and more—skills aimed at preparing them for real-world financial independence.
“Children today know money but don’t know how to make money. We’re changing that here,” Rose said.
Another staff member, Mr. Abednego Bako, described the school as one built on integrity and spiritual values.
“Our salaries are never delayed. The management supports both slow and fast learners. Above all, God is at the center of this school,” he noted, encouraging more parents to consider enrolling their children.
Students, too, had their say. A young health prefect, Ejiro Ateriyoke, said:
“The school teaches us discipline, peace, and harmony.”
A budding lawyer in one of the senior classes confidently said:
“English is my favorite subject because it is a general language. I want to be a lawyer to defend people who are right.”
Parents at the event expressed satisfaction with their children’s transformation.
“I’ve seen major improvement in my kids. The school premises are spacious, and the environment is conducive for learning and play,” a parent shared.
The event featured exciting student presentations—emotional, informative, and entertaining—leaving attendees clapping, laughing, and tapping along to cheerful songs.
As admission continues into all classes, the school, located off Perfecter Road, Akwanga, is calling on families to join a vision that works—where education is not just taught but lived.
