Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has been declared the winner of the state’s governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
On Sunday, Prof. Maimuna Waziri, the vice chancellor of Federal University, Gashua, Yobe and the INEC returning officer, announced the results in Gombe.
In order to defeat his closest rival Jibrin Barde of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who received 233,131 votes, Mr. Waziri claimed that Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress, APC, received 342, 821 votes.
According to her, Keftin Amuga of the Labour Party received 1,753 votes, compared to 19,861 for Khamisu Mailantarki of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, or NNPP.
According to Mr. Waziri, there were 1,575,794 registered voters and 618,231 accredited voters. He also stated that 605,355 valid votes were cast, 11,390 of which were rejected, for a total of 616,745 votes.
Mr. Yahaya won in nine of the state’s 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs), and the margin of victory between the APC and PDP was 109,690 votes.
