JUST IN: U.S. Missionary Alex Barbir Alleges Fulani Militia Violence, Criticizes Government Response

TEC News| 12th February, 2026.

American missionary Alex Barbir has alleged that armed Fulani militias are responsible for widespread violence across parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt, accusing the Nigerian government of failing to adequately address the crisis.
Speaking during a video interview circulating online, Barbir claimed that attacks in states such as Benue, Plateau, Taraba, and Kaduna involve killings, kidnappings, and alleged land seizures.
According to Barbir, the violence is often misattributed internationally.

“The Fulani terrorists are massacring Christians and also some Muslims across Nigeria. They’re taking over land from Christians. The Nigerian government is doing nothing to stop it,” he said.
Barbir further argued that global narratives focusing primarily on extremist groups like Boko Haram or ISIS may overlook other actors.

“It’s not ISIS or Boko Haram that we need to target… It’s Fulani that are going and killing and massacring and burning, taking over, kidnapping,” he stated.
He also accused authorities of downplaying the scale of the violence.
“The government is not doing it. They’re literally trying to cover it up… Everybody’s saying Christian genocide, why are we hiding the truth?” Barbir said.

Barbir warned that his activities and statements could make him a target, noting that he remains supported by allies in the United States, including Congressman Riley Moore.
Security challenges involving herder–farmer conflicts, banditry, and insurgency have persisted in several parts of Nigeria in recent years. Nigerian authorities have repeatedly stated that efforts are ongoing to address insecurity through military operations and other interventions.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the Nigerian government specifically addressing Barbir’s remarks.
