Mango Girl Abuse: State Government, Others Applauded for taking decisive Action.

Nigerians have applauded the Government of Bornu State and other ministries on the intervention roles played by initiating and sustaining actions towards giving justice to the underage girl brutally beaten by a couple for plugging mangoes in their compound without their consent.

A video emerged in the social media space that went viral with man been seen inflicting pains on an underage girl through many lashes of cane.

The man identified as Mamman Sheriff is seen brutally beating the girl while his wife encouraged him and supplies more cane.

While bewildered Nigerians we’re wondering if the girl would ever get justice, it was reported shortly that the couple were arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense corps (NSCDC), Borno State command and the  Government of Borno State, Women Affiars Ministry,  and ministries of Education and ministries of Justice wade into the issue to ensure justice.

It was reported that the Borno State Government has took swift legal action against Mamman Sheriff and his wife, who were caught on video assaulting a young girl in Pompommari Bypass, Maiduguri. The video, which went viral on social media after being posted by Ahmed Baba Dikwa, showed Mamman Sheriff brutally beating the girl while his wife backing him. Reports confirmed that the girl was attacked simply for entering their compound to pick a mango after returning from school.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, the Nigeria security and civil Defense corps (NSCDC), Borno State command, immediately arrested Mamman Sheriff and his wife before the intervention of the ministries. Following their arrest, the Borno State Government stepped into in to ensure that justice was served by involving relevant ministries, including the ministry of women Affairs and social Development, the ministry of Education, and the ministry of justice.

 

TEC News also gathered that Despite being out of town, Hon. Zuwaira Gambo, Commissioner for women Affairs and social Development, quickly directed a delegation, led by social worker Asabe Muhammad, to follow up on the case. The delegation visited the NSCDC Borno command, where they met with the 2Ic commandant, Obi Ndubisi, and the investigation officers, Peter, to ensure proper legal proceedings were initiated.

It was confirmed that the ministry of justice had taken over case for prosecution, while the ministry of Education also took necessary steps in response to the incident. The NSCDC assured the government that the perpetrators would face the full weight of the law and that justice would be served.

 

Meanwhile the Borno State Government has also provided urgent support to the young girl and her family. She is currently receiving medical treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), with Dr. Lawan Bukar Alhaji covering her medical expenses. Additionally, Hon Zuwaira Gambo directed the distribution of relief items to the victims family, including Dignity Kits, 25kg bag of rice, 25kg bags of Garri and financial assistance.

The victims family expressed their gratitude to the Borno State Government, the NSCDC, and all the ministries involved for their swift response and commitment to justice. They commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s administration for ensuring the protection of vulnerable citizens and taking firm legal action against child abuse. This strong intervention by the Borno State Government reinforces it’s zero tolerance policy on child abuse and send a clear message that perpetrators will not go unpunished, under the leadership of His Excellency Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, justice will always be upheld.

This development is been applauded by most Nigerians on social media groups commending those that have initiated actions to ensure justice.
