Niger State Govt Approves Reopening of Schools from January 12

The Niger State Government has approved the reopening of all public and private schools located in safe and secure areas of the state, effective Monday, January 12, 2026.
This was disclosed in a press release issued on January 2, 2026, by the Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Office of the Honourable Commissioner.
According to the statement, the approval was granted by the Executive Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, following careful security assessments and extensive consultations with relevant security agencies.
The government said the decision reflects its commitment to safeguarding lives while ensuring uninterrupted access to quality education for children across the state.
Under the approved guidelines, all public and private day and boarding schools located in areas considered safe are permitted to resume academic activities on the stated date. However, schools situated in unsafe or insecure areas will remain closed until further security assessments are conducted and clearance is granted by the appropriate authorities.
As part of mandatory reopening requirements, school authorities have been directed to immediately register all returning students upon resumption. The compiled data is to be submitted to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education within one week for documentation and monitoring purposes.
The statement also directed Local Government Area Chairmen to support the reopening process within their respective LGAs by ensuring compliance with the outlined conditions and facilitating coordination with security agencies.
Parents, guardians, school proprietors, and other stakeholders were urged to cooperate with government directives as efforts continue to balance safety with educational continuity across Niger State.
