Nollywood Legend Nkem Owoh (Osuofia) Builds Free School in Enugu

Veteran Nollywood actor, Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, has unveiled a life-changing project for underprivileged children in Enugu State — a free school known as Osuofia Foundation Academy.
The actor, who is widely celebrated for his comedic roles in Nigerian films, revealed that his inspiration came from childhood experiences where he saw many children struggle to access basic education.
“People know me as Osuofia. They laugh when they see me in movies, but many don’t know the other side of me. Growing up, I saw how poor children suffered just to go to school. Some had no shoes, no books, and no food. I told myself, ‘One day, if God blesses me, I will do something,’”
Owoh shared.
According to him, the academy will be completely free of charge — no school fees, no uniforms, and no hidden costs. “Just come and learn,” he said.
Explaining the motivation behind the initiative, Owoh noted:
“I named it Osuofia Foundation Academy because I want to give back to the same society that gave me fame. For me, true success is not in how many cars you drive, but in how many lives you touch.”
The announcement has been met with an outpouring of commendations from fans, colleagues, and education advocates.
A Nollywood colleague described Owoh as “a true legend on and off the screen,” adding that his project proves celebrities can make lasting social impact beyond entertainment.
Parents in Enugu also expressed gratitude, noting that the school would relieve families of the burden of high tuition fees. “This is God’s answer to many struggling parents who want quality education for their children but cannot afford it,” one mother said.
Education activists have also applauded the initiative, urging the government and other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Owoh. According to a local educationist,
“What Nkem Owoh has done is not just philanthropy; it is nation-building. Education is the greatest equalizer, and giving it free to the poor is the highest form of service.”
Meanwhile, fans online have flooded social media with praise, hailing the actor for using his fame and resources to transform lives.
The Osuofia Foundation Academy is set to begin admitting children immediately, with the assurance that no child will be turned away due to financial constraints.
