Anyim Former Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Pius Anyim stated that his suspension by the Peoples Democratic Party does not affect him (PDP). He proudly supported Francis Nwifuru, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, to win the March 18 governorship election in Ebonyi State, beating his chest in satisfaction as he did so.
The former Senate President responded to his suspension along with others by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) over alleged anti-party activities in a statement he personally issued and signed on Friday. He firmly stated that the APC candidate “conformed with the existing power-rotation formular in the state” and that he had no regrets about doing so.
In his words: “Contrary to the state’s zoning formular, the NWC imposed a candidate who is from the same sentaorial district as the incumbent governor.”
Every attempt to get the NWC to see the reasons failed.
“On the day of our presidential rally in Ebonyi, I informed the party’s national chairman that I would boycott it because I could not support a candidate the NWC imposed on the state.
The former Senate President claimed that the man said nothing and showed no concern that I had skipped the rally.
Anyim added that due to the NWC’s leadership style, many party members, including committee members, worked against it.
“The NWC’s decision to suspend and fear those who regularly demonize it by picking soft targets is, therefore, a display of innate cowardice.”

It is unclear why the NWC is in a rush to suspend party leaders without first holding a fair hearing, which is a requirement for legal action.
“The NWC’s bold front instead of expressing regret and acting responsibly for leading the party to such a colossal defeat in the elections reeks of arrogance.
The hopes and expectations of party members and Nigerians were ultimately dashed by this defeat, Anyim continued.
“I believed the NWC might have been interested in conducting an in-depth analysis of why it did so poorly in the election.
He continued, “This should had been the case instead of seeking to further polarize the party through accusations.
