Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has approved the appointment of a new chairman and members of Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
According to the statement, the new RSIEC Chairman, Dr Micheal Ekpai Odey, will work with six members and four professors.
The appointment was announced in a Government Special Announcement issued on Wednesday by Prof. Ibibia Worika, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government.
The statement, which was sent to newsmen, said the appointment takes effect from Monday, 7th of April 2025.
It reads, “The Following have also been appointed as Chairman and members of the Rivers State Electoral Commission:
“1. Dr Micheal Ekpai Odey, Chairman
2. Mr Lezaasi Lenee Torbira member
3. Prof Author Nwafor
4. Professor Godfrey Woke Mbgudiogha Member
5. Professor (Dame) Joyce Akaninwor Member
6. Dr (Mrs) Olive A. Bruce Member
7. Professor Chidi Halliday Member.
“All appointments take effect from Monday, the 7th of April 2025”.
Recall that Ibas had last week suspended the heads of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in the state, including the RSIEC, then headed by Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd.)
In same vein, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, also approved the appointments of administrators for the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
According to statement by the Secretary to Government Ibibia Worika, the Sole Administrator also appointed Chairman and members of the Rivers State Electoral Commission.

These comes less than 24 hours after a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt reportedly restrained the Administrator from appointing administrators to oversee the affairs of the local government councils.
