A fierce battle between Nigerian Army soldiers and bandits in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area resulted in the neutralization of one bandit and the destruction of a criminal hideout.

After coming into contact with the bandits, the troops also freed 14 kidnapping victims.

The 167 Battalion’s Special Forces and members of Sector Four of Operation Whirl Punch’s troops engaged in a fierce battle to clear the bandit hideout, according to a statement released on Saturday by Samuel Aruwan, the city of Kaduna’s commissioner for internal security and home affairs.

In the Tukurua general area of the Chikun LGA, he claimed, the troops went on a long-range fighting patrol, engaged and overpowered the outlaws, neutralizing one while driving the others away in confusion.

He claimed that during the operation, the troops freed 14 kidnapped people—nine men and five women—and that they were then taken to a secure location for evaluation and debriefing before being reunited with their families.

The governor, Nasir El-Rufai, praised the troops’ efforts, he said, adding that the troops also destroyed several camps and found two motorcycles.
