The Police Service Commission (PSC) has directed four deputy inspectors-general of police to proceed on compulsory retirement with effect form 25th August, 2023.

The affected DIGs are Dan-Mallam Mohammed, Moses Ambakina Jitiboh, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa and Adeleke Adeyinka Bode.

The PSC said the police officers, who were initially seniors in rank to the Acting Inspector of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, failed to retire after he was appointed to his new position.

In a statement on Monday, Ikechukwu Ani, PSC spokesperson, said the commission took the decision after it had given “ample time” to the four DIGs to voluntarily retire from the service.

“In the wake of the appointment of the acting inspector-general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, on the 19th of June, 2023 by Mr. President, the Commission had expected in consonance with the revered tradition of discipline and regimented culture of the Nigeria Police Force that those DIGs who were seniors in rank prior to his elevation will voluntarily apply for retirement or elect to leave the force,” the statement reads.

“Accordingly, the former DIGs have been mandated to immediately proceed on compulsory retirement with effect from Friday, 25th August, 2023.”

On June 19, President Bola Tinubu approved the immediate retirement of all security chiefs — including former IGP Usman Baba — and announced their successors.

Egbetokun was appointed as the acting IGP to replace Baba.

In a related development, the commission also approved the appointment of four assistant inspectors-general of police to the rank of DIG.

The newly appointed DIGs are Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje, Daniel Sokari, Ayuba Ekpeji, and Usman Nagogo.
