Residents Beg Governor Sule Not to Leave Angwan Pandon in Darkness
Residents of Angwan Pandon in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule not to leave the community in prolonged darkness as his administration gradually approaches its final phase.
TEC News correspondent reports that the residents expressed deep frustration on Wednesday when officials of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) were seen carrying out official duties in parts of the community.
Speaking during interviews, some residents alleged that Angwan Pandon has remained in total blackout for close to one year, while neighbouring communities continue to enjoy regular electricity supply.
One resident, who declined to mention his name, spoke angrily about the situation:
“What is our offence in Angwan Pandon? What have we done to deserve this punishment? For almost one year now, there has been no light. Why has the Governor not been able to solve this problem? Very soon he will complete his tenure and we may continue in darkness. This is too much.”
Another resident, Mr. Baraje Nicolas, also lamented the hardship faced by the community.
“Before now, we were enjoying 24-hour electricity supply and we paid heavily for it every month. Later, they reduced it to either 16 or 14 hours without any explanation. Suddenly, we were told that our transformer had been vandalized — something similar happened barely two years ago and the transformer was replaced then. Since that incident, we have had no electricity supply and it is now over one year, if I am not mistaken.
“We are being treated unfairly and there seems to be nothing we can do. We believe Governor Abdullahi Sule can solve this problem, but we do not understand what is happening. If I had access to the Governor, I would kneel down and plead with him not to leave Angwan Pandon in darkness as he prepares to leave office.”
Investigation by TEC News reveals that the community had experienced unstable electricity supply for several months before the complete blackout began. Residents are now worried about how much longer the situation will continue and why stakeholders within the power sector have allegedly neglected the community.
The people of Angwan Pandon are therefore calling on the Nasarawa State Government, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and other relevant authorities to urgently intervene and restore electricity to the area.
