Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, was declared the victor of the hotly contested election that took place on Saturday, February 25, by Professor Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission and returning officer for the 2023 presidential election, early on March 1.
Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who both won 12 states, respectively, came in second and third place, behind Tinubu, the winner-elect.

Only 25.3 million of the 93.5 million eligible voters who registered to vote actually showed up at the polls and had their votes counted, according to INEC’s data.
Eighteen political parties fielded candidates for the nation’s top job and below is how they shared the 25.3 million valid votes in the election.
