Sen. Orji Uzor of the Abia North Senatorial District announced on Tuesday that he has officially informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to run for Senate President ahead of the swearing-in of the 10th National Assembly.
According to Kalu, who publicly documented his trip to the presidential villa on his verified Twitter account, he gave President Buhari his Certificate of Return after winning the election for the 10th Senate on March 18, 2023.
His announcement of his intent to run for Senate President, among other positions, would depend on the ruling party zoning the office to the South East, a decision the APC leadership had not yet made.

The current Chief Whip of the Senate, Kalu, wrote: “President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) received me in the State House this afternoon. It was an honor to give Mr. President my certificate of return and to express my gratitude for his support of the Abia North Senatorial District over the previous three years. Additionally, I informed the President of my intent to run for Senate President in the tenth National Assembly.
The former governor of Abia State was revealed to be the only ranking senator from the South East joining the ruling APC and returning to the red chamber.
