Man Cries for Justice After Police Torture, Property Seizure and Death Threats — Appeals for Urgent Help

A Nigerian man, Michael Galadima, has issued a public cry for help after years of alleged police brutality, wrongful detention, property seizure, and threats to his life following a property transaction that began in 2019. His plea, shared on Wednesday, has sparked concern as he calls on the Federal Government, human rights organisations, and legal advocates to intervene before the situation escalates further.

 

Galadima narrated that his ordeal began after he assisted the family of a kidnapped neighbour in Taraba State by contributing money towards ransom payment. According to him, the family later relocated to Lafia, Nasarawa State, to oversee their relative’s home and sought a caretaker. Although he declined the role and referred them to his uncle, the relationship deteriorated after the uncle allegedly insulted the family representative.

 

He later expressed interest in buying the property when the family decided to sell it. Galadima said he insisted on a physical meeting, during which his lawyer inspected the documents — including a letter from the High Court in Jalingo — and confirmed the transaction was legitimate. In 2022, he reportedly took a bank loan at great personal risk and paid for the house in full, even providing a room for the family and expanding the property with a new three-room extension.

 

However, the situation allegedly turned hostile shortly after. Galadima claimed that unknown to him, his uncle and the family conspired against him, and in November 2022, he was arrested and detained for five days over accusations of involvement in the original kidnapping , allegations he describes as completely fabricated.

 

During his detention, he alleges he was tortured, humiliated, and pressured to forfeit the house and additional money. Although he was later cleared of the allegations, he said he was coerced into surrendering his property.

 

Galadima subsequently filed a lawsuit against the family and the police, and in January 2025, the court ruled in his favour. Despite the ruling, he said the family has continued to collect rent from the property for over three years while he received nothing. He added that the accumulating interest on the loan he took to purchase the house has destroyed his livelihood, pushing him and his family into financial distress.

 

Judgment enforcement officers reportedly visited the property in June and November 2025, yet Galadima claims the occupants denied knowledge of the case. According to him, the most recent enforcement attempt resulted in renewed death threats against him and his family.

 

His wife, who was nursing a baby at the time of his detention, was allegedly forced to wander in search of help while he was held. He says the family has since lived in fear, with their safety increasingly at risk.

 

“I’ve waited patiently for the law to take its course, but it seems it’s not working,” Galadima lamented. “I’ve been insulted, threatened, and impoverished. I just want justice. Nigerians, please help me.”

 

He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, the National Human Rights Commission, civil society groups, the Nigerian Bar Association, and concerned citizens to intervene in what he describes as a prolonged attack on his rights and dignity.

 

The police in Nasarawa and Taraba States have yet to respond to the allegations as of press time.

 

Galadima urged Nigerians to amplify his story, expressing fear that he and his family could be harmed if help does not come quickly.

 

“This could happen to anyone,” he added. “All I ask for is justice and protection.”
