International Women’s Day: NIN Calls for Support as Nigerian Women Face Growing Socio-Economic Pressure

As the world commemorates International Women’s Day, the National Interest Network (NIN) has raised concern over the increasing social and economic burdens confronting women across Nigeria, calling for stronger support systems and policies that will enable women to thrive.
In a statement released to TEC News on Saturday, the National President of the Network, Da-Silva Johnson, said many Nigerian women are silently bearing the weight of rising inflation, economic hardship, insecurity, and the growing responsibilities of family survival and children’s education.
According to him, while men often face the visible struggles of survival in society, women are frequently left to deal with the emotional, financial, and social consequences within homes and communities.
Johnson noted that many women are quietly struggling to keep their families together under extremely difficult conditions, often enduring stress and hardship that remain largely unnoticed.
He further expressed concern that the harsh economic realities in the country have pushed some women into compromising situations in order to survive, including exploitative relationships and other unhealthy alternatives. Despite these challenges, he acknowledged that many women still strive to uphold dignity, responsibility, and the moral fabric of society.
The NIN President therefore called on government, institutions, and society to create an environment that offers women better economic opportunities, supportive policies, and safer communities.
According to him, improving the economic stability of families will also reduce the burden placed on women, noting that when households are supported, women are better positioned to contribute positively to society.
Johnson emphasized that societies that support their women tend to build stronger families, healthier communities, and more stable nations.
He concluded by celebrating the resilience and strength of Nigerian women who continue to uphold family values and community development despite prevailing socio-economic pressures.
The statement also urged policymakers and stakeholders to prioritize initiatives that promote dignity, opportunity, and protection for women across the country.
TEC News reports that International Women’s Day is observed globally on March 8 each year to recognize the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while advocating for gender equality and improved opportunities for women worldwide.
