The family of the late DSC Agada Levi Agada, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called on the Inspector-General of Police, the National Assembly, the National Human Rights Commission, and other relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Agada, who is also a pastor in a new-generation church, died on February 18, 2026 while attached to the NSCDC Mining Marshals Unit in Nasarawa State.
The call was contained in a petition submitted by Nwabueze Obasi-Obi Esq. of Y.C. Maikyau & Co. Legal Practitioners on behalf of the family.
The petition, addressed to relevant authorities, requests a comprehensive investigation into the events leading to the officer’s death.
The deceased, bearing service No. 44722, was, until his death, an officer of the Mining Marshals Unit of the NSCDC.
He was a native of Onicha-Igo, Igalogba District, Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, and was offered provisional appointment into the NSCDC on April 16, 2012.
According to the petition, family members were initially informed by NSCDC officials that Agada sustained injuries during an alleged attack at their duty post and later died while receiving medical treatment.
However, the family said subsequent explanations provided by different officials contained discrepancies, prompting concerns and a request for further clarification.
The petition stated that family members later obtained information from medical personnel at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, regarding the treatment administered to the deceased before his death.
The family argued that the varying accounts they received warrant an independent investigation to establish the full facts of the incident.
The petition also noted that the family has yet to receive an official report detailing the circumstances of the deceased’s death.
In a supporting affidavit, one of the deceased’s brothers, Paul Levi Agada, confirmed that NSCDC officials visited the family following the incident and provided financial assistance towards burial arrangements.
The family has urged the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation and make public the findings.
Meanwhile, sources familiar with the matter said the Nigeria Police Force had been conducting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death and has invited a number of persons for questioning.
Efforts to obtain the official position of the NSCDC on the allegations contained in the petition were not immediately successful at the time of filing this report
