On Monday, the police issued a warning to all presidential candidates and their supporters.

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force’s public relations officer, made the decision in a statement on Monday.

“The Nigeria Police Force has deemed it necessary to charge Presidential Candidates of all political parties, most particularly APC, PDP, LP and NNPP, to caution their party stalwarts and supporters to avoid making inciting remarks capable of unnecessarily igniting the polity and creating unwarranted excitement among the electorates and the general populace in the country,” he said.

All presidential candidates, according to Adejobi, should take advantage of the waiting period to emphasize the importance of the rule of law, constitutional authority, and respect for it among their supporters.

He emphasized the need to stop putting undue pressure on the announcement of election results.

He claims that all efforts are being made to quickly complete the results’ collation and announce the winner.

The police praised the populace and electorates for their up to this point patience and urged presidential candidates to caution their supporters to uphold the principles of the recently signed Peace Accord for the orderly conduct of the general elections in 2023.
