Romelu Lukaku, a striker for Belgium, was about to sign with Chelsea in 2021 when Arsenal legend Thierry Henry revealed that he had forewarned the forward that things would be difficult.

Lukaku moved from Inter Milan to Chelsea two years ago in a £97.5 million deal.

The former Manchester United attacker, who scored 15 goals in 44 appearances in his first season at Chelsea, struggled to have a significant impact.

Lukaku was given permission by Chelsea to return to Inter Milan on loan last summer after making it clear he was dissatisfied with the club under former manager Thomas Tuchel.

Romelu Lukaku and I had a conversation when he (Chelsea) moved there, Henry told CBS Sports.
“I warned him that playing for Chelsea would be challenging, and that was the case because of [Thomas] Tuchel’s preferred style of play.

Rom likes to stay put, get fed, play him early, try to intimidate you, turn, stay in the box, crosses, he is a different type of No. 9 than what Tuchel wanted. Pressing, the No. 9 and winger have to change.

“Now, will he work with what Potter is trying to accomplish? Even without him on the squad, I believe they are having difficulty with that.
“But what does he want to do? I don’t think he wants to go back. That is the main thing, I think he wants to stay at Inter.”
