10 voting units in the state’s Victoria Garden City, Lekki area will not participate in the governor and house of assembly elections scheduled for this Saturday.

This was said by Segun Agbaje, the Lagos State resident electoral commissioner for INEC, during a press conference on Saturday at the VGC.

Agbaje claimed that members of the National Youth Service Corps who had been stationed in the region as ad hoc staff members were reluctant to enter the VGC estate because they believed they had been taken hostage during the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Agbaje claimed that the ad hoc staff had instead set up voting materials in front of the estate, but the residents claimed that they did not feel secure because they were worried about hoodlums invading and interfering with the election, so they were unable to vote.

He claimed that the situation required more assistance than the on-site security personnel could provide, necessitating a visit from his team.
6 024 people are registered to vote in this area’s eight polling places, and 5,624 of those people have their PVCs, according to Agbaje.

The main gate of the estate’s two additional polling places, he continued, were also compromised.

Eight inside (the estate) and two outside, he remarked.

“We will reconvene here at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow (Sunday) to conduct the elections, following due consultation and further instruction from the national headquarters.”

Agbaje added that the commission had received guarantees from the estate’s security committee’s chairman regarding the security of its employees and voters.
