kidnappers in Ondo kill farmer after wife delays ransom payment

In response to a delayed ransom payment, kidnappers killed 40-year-old cocoa farmer Akinola Akinnibinu.

They killed their target and then chemically treated his body.

Four days had passed when the body was found.

Akinola was reportedly kidnapped at his farm in Oko Oparun, Ondo East Local Government, and a N700,000 ransom was demanded.

The deceased allegedly called his wife and told her to get N700,000 from a POS machine and bring it to the farm.
According to sources, the victim’s wife was called by the kidnappers to send money to an Opay account number.

However, after the wife informed Amotekun Corps and other villagers, the kidnappers fled the scene before they could be apprehended.

His wife said, “My husband left the house in the morning to go to his farm. He later called me to pick up cash from the POS close to our home. I asked him what he intended to do with the money, and he said he would explain it to me when I arrived at the farm.

“Subsequently, some men called me using my husband’s phone number to ask me to transfer money to an Opay account. I informed them that I had sent the money when they called again to say they had not seen it.

“They invited me to visit the farm. Because I was terrified, I warned Amotekun and the other villagers. Since I had informed people, they called as I was leaving with them and said, “I will see,”

“When I arrived at the location, I did not see them, and we departed. It wasn’t until yesterday, however, that the villagers called to report seeing a dead body covered in bamboo leaves with chemical all over it. The body was that of my husband.

According to police sources, Igba Division members were sent to the scene and were able to retrieve the body, which they then transported to the General Hospital morgue in Ondo town.
