Chinyere Igwe, a member of the House of Representatives, was taken into custody recently, and the Presidential Campaign Council of the People Democratic Party (PDP) has broken its silence in response to the incident.
Igwe was reportedly arrested on the eve of the Presidential and National Assembly elections by the Rivers State Police Command. At the time of his arrest, he was allegedly in possession of a sum of money equal to half a million dollars in United States currency.
Igwe, a supporter of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP, was detained on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the capital of the state.
Aside from the foreign currency that was allegedly in his possession, it was gathered that the police also found a list of how the money will be distributed to beneficiaries in the 23 local government areas of the state, as well as security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission. This information was gathered by the police (INEC).

Dino Melaye, the spokesperson for the PDP campaign council, has stated that Igwe is not an ally of Atiku, but rather an ally of Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state. This information has been made public.
According to what Melaye said to The Punch, Igwe served as a Commissioner during Wike’s first term, and Wike was the one who pushed him into the National Assembly for the third time. As a result, Melaye believes that Igwe is a stronger ally of Wike than Atiku.
The leader of the PDP said that for a person of Igwe status, having $500,000 should not be an issue because he owns hotels, a filling station, and other businesses. This is according to the PDP chieftain.
According to Melaye, “He may be a member of the PDP, but when you say ally of Atiku I don’t understand what you mean because, up until now, nobody has been able to directly link him with Atiku.” Melaye’s argument is based on the fact that nobody has been able to directly link him with Atiku. Instead, he is a member of our team. Because he was a colleague of mine in the House of Representatives and because he has served in that body for three separate terms, I am aware of the fact that he is a supporter of Governor Nyesom Wike.
It was during Wike’s first term as governor that he served as a commissioner, and it was with Wike’s assistance that he was elected to the National Assembly for the third time. Therefore, Wike is more likely to count on him as an ally than Atiku is. Since I am familiar with the individual in question, I am aware that he has served as a commissioner, that he owns a hotel and a gas station, and that he has been elected to the House of Representatives three times; therefore, acquiring $500,000 should not be a problem for someone of his status.
