Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), is unknown in many northern states, according to Muhammad Suleiman, national youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At a town hall meeting for PDP youth and student engagement held on Monday in Lagos, Suleiman spoke.

Elections, according to the PDP national youth leader, can only be won by candidates with nationwide structures, not by sentiments.

It’s unfortunate that some people are relying on sentiments to win their constituency’s support, he said.
“Tinubu claims that the presidency of Nigeria is now his to hold. Without presenting and defending your policy document, we are unable to transfer 200 million lives to you. We need a president who can defend his or her platform wherever they may be.

“Allow me to switch to the ‘Obidients’ side. Promoting sentiments won’t help you win the election. The Nigeria we envision is not a country where you can tell people to vote for you because you’re a Christian or a Muslim.

“I’ll tell you this: People in Katsina, Sokoto, and many other northern states don’t know anything like Peter Obi does.
The grassroots must be involved in your campaign. In Nigeria, there are over 170,000 voting stations, and let me tell you that 80 percent of them lack a structure for the Labour Party. They must find a way to win the elections. They can’t succeed.

Alao John, the National Association of Nigerian Students’ deputy south-west coordinator, also spoke at the occasion and reaffirmed the group’s support for Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate.

John, who gave Abubakar his official endorsement at the PDP rally in Oyo, claimed that the former vice president has the vision to reform the educational system.

“We have high hopes that we will succeed in electing Atiku Abubakar. Vote for Atiku to ensure that Nigeria’s educational system is active.
Atiku deserves your vote. We require someone who will alter the history of our wonderful nation. That is why I’m pleading with our parents in this room to back Atiku,” he said.
