On Wednesday morning, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, announced that he will “personally head to the Court” today (Wednesday) with the party’s lawyers. Obi made this revelation during the morning news broadcast.

It was reported that Obi made the decision to appear in court as a result of the alleged refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to allow the Labour Party to inspect the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and other materials used in the presidential election that took place on February 25. The election took place on a Saturday.

The Labour Party is challenging the results of the 2023 election, which it claims should not have produced Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the president-elect.

The following is an excerpt from the statement that Obi released: “I am supposed to begin our whistle-stop campaign for our various Labour Party Governorship and State Assembly Candidates today. In the beginning, the plan was for me to travel to Nasarawa, Lagos, Enugu, Abia, Delta, Edo, Rivers, Plateau, Borno, and other places like that.

“However, following INEC’s refusal to permit our party to inspect the materials (including BVAS) from the presidential elections held on the 25th of February, I will personally be heading to the Court today with our lawyers.

“While we pursue due process and defer to the rule of law, I urge all of the OBIdients in the various states to continue campaigning for our candidates. These include Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour in Lagos, Chijoke Edeoga in Enugu, Patrick Dakum in Plateau, Alex Otti in Abia, Ken Pela in Edo, and Ibrahim Mshelia in Borno, to name just a few.

“It is also absolutely necessary for Obidients to cast their ballots for candidates who possess Competence, Character, Capacity, and Compassion.

“I am still dedicated to our mission of retrieving our mandate, and I intend to pay it a greater amount of attention moving forward. It is not impossible to imagine a different Nigeria!”
