On Wednesday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that Bola Tinubu’s defeat in the state’s February 25 presidential election was caused by the Muslim-Muslim ticket, Igbo presidential feeling, and internal strife within the state’s ruling All Progressives Party (APC).

The Lagos governor added, “We have been able to identify and examine critically what went wrong,” in a monitored interview on Arise TV. The Muslim-Muslim ticket was important because Lagos is also a major center for the Christian population, and we knew this. So, it is there.

“The other reason is that some individuals said that this is the first time from their own ethnic nationality that they are having their son on the vote, so ‘na my pikin,’ so we cannot compel anybody. That’s what makes democracy so lovely.

“The third factor is that we ourselves had internal conflicts that we were unable to properly resolve before the election,”

The governor also lamented the underwhelming voter turnout figures, saying it is a problem that needs to be carefully examined.
