Bola Tinubu, the winner of the presidential election, went before the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Tuesday, pleading with it to order the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, to give him access to sensitive materials it used during the election he won.
In order to prepare his defense against petitions that would seek to invalidate his election, Tinubu stated through his attorney, Mr. Akintola Makinde, that he would need to examine, scan, and make duplicates of some of the electoral papers.
The materials would be helpful for us as we prepare our defense and compare them to the data on INEC’s back-end server, said Makinde.

The Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, are included as respondents in Tinubu’s first ex-parte application, which was submitted on March 6. In contrast, INEC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, along with Atiku Abubakar, are listed as respondents in the second application.
On Wednesday, the appellate court, which will serve as the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, will decide on Tinubu’s application.
